The old playground rhyme, “Trick or Treat give me something good to eat, if you don’t, I don’t care, I’ll pull down your underwear…” started way back in the 1960s, and was in reference to begging. It’s fascinating how sing-song rhymes tend to stick in your memory with the words, cadence, and rhythms. Beyond that, Halloween was traditionally known as All Hallows’ Eve, which was a time to remember those who had passed on.   Many believe that Halloween had its origins as the festival of Samhain, when the Celtic farmers brought their livestock from the pastures and began preparing for the upcoming cold winter season. There also was a religious element where people burned their food, and some animals, as offerings to the gods.

Recognize that Halloween is a time of transition from the summer warmth into the fall and upcoming winter cold. Preparing for this transition was essential to not only survive the winter, but also understand that everything has rhythm and timing.

Cultivating a keen observation for how things constantly shift and change is important and essential, along with paying attention to cycles. Knowing your body’s rhythm is important in establishing healthy behavioral patterns that will benefit you in the long run. Make it a point to reflect and reassess what’s happening in your life every so often, to insure that you are staying on point. Your body is constantly giving you feedback in the form of quality of breath, muscle tension, posture shifts, emotional swings, and even digestive shifts.

Going through transitions are never easy, especially when you are shifting into a new paradigm, or attempting to do something that is not your norm or the status quo. Your current life may be filled with physical challenges and hardships, but to actually imagine a life without it, can be hard to fathom, even though it may be a driving force to change.

This is where your mind can literally play tricks on you to keep you a prisoner of circumstance and situation. Learning about a healer, or finding a curative supplement, may be the treat you’re looking for. It may give you the opportunity to shift and be free from the challenges, but the true agent of healing lies within each and every one of you. Healing or making a change is your choice to make, and to what degree you choose to take ownership and responsibility of your situation, determines the difference it will make.

Take time to reflect and reassess where you are currently in your life. Are there some things that need to be addressed personally, professionally, physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually? Determine what is working in your life and what challenges you could live without. Although irritating family members, a challenging boss, co-worker, or significant other, or even a health ailment, may seem undesirable, they are serving some benefit in your life. If they were not serving some benefit, they would not be an issue. Recognizing the challenging issues in your life, and looking for the silver lining of how these issues are benefitting you, will help bring balance and more ease to your life. By identifying your triggers and taking full ownership of actions you take or don’t take, you can then become your own treat instead of a distasteful trick.
