It’s amazing how time flies. It’s been 26 years that I have been in practice, working with practice members who continue to amaze me. Ever since I became aware of how our minds and emotions impact our health and well-being, every day became a new adventure and essentially a blank canvas. Over the last 20 years I have learned that it’s all about asking members, and even myself, the right questions, in order to be led to the right answers for each of us, and that allows us to heal and become whole once again.
The difficulty lies in our resistance to acknowledging what is truly at the root of our discomfort and dis-ease. We have been conditioned by society to think in terms of cause and effect, such as rationalizing that lifting a heavy box led to you tweaking your lower back. The easiest and promoted option is taking medications such as an anti-inflammatory, NSAID, or even CBD, to take the perceived pain away. What if there was another alternative, such as pausing and reflecting inside yourself to discover if there are any changes or stressors affecting you at the current moment?
When I asked the right questions, I’ve witnessed that members are able to identify what was happening in their life just before, or at the moment a particular pain or health ailment appeared, and many times that led to a decrease in their symptomatology.
Even I, at times, don’t want to reflect on what is going on in my life. I’d rather try to physically address the particular symptom that is nagging me. It can be rather exhausting to self-examine and reflect on stressors occurring in our lives that cause major disturbances. It is more appealing and preferable at times to find a doctor, specialist, or healer to take care of the perceived problem so that we can continue living our lives, blissfully unaware. However, I end up asking myself what’s going on, and am brutally honest about what I have been going though.
This is where the rub is – until we take full responsibility for our choices and actions, we will never fully heal. We can temporarily believe that a doctor or healer fixed or cured us, but as time goes on, we will have to face that which we created. Some of you might be thinking, “Whoa Chad, really? Do we truly have the power to heal ourselves?” My answer is a resounding YES! Bring balance to your mental and emotional state, and your body cannot help but follow your lead and go along for the ride. It’s when we aren’t aligned with our truth, that our body eventually starts to take over to help us recognize the need to get back to a space of ease.
Communicating with your body is key, and learning to understand its signals will help you build confidence and avoid freaking out when you have a pain or weird symptom that befuddles you and your medical support team. Make it a practice to start paying attention to when you feel tension in your body or when you experience something that is unusual. Being proactive will serve you immensely, versus waiting for a health crisis to occur and putting yourself at the mercy of western medicine. Recondition yourself to recognize that your body is not punishing you. See it as an opportunity to ask yourself the right questions to discover what you are not presently conscious of. You have the power to heal. Remember that you always have a choice to listen and take action.
